London will host the first AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championship race
Following the success of amateur world championship events like the Triathlon Middle Distance World Championships and for amateur cyclists the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships , from 202o there will also be a world championships for age group Marathon runners. Qualifying is already well under way as the first qualifying period for the AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Rankings began on Sept. 16, 2018 at the 2018 BMW BERLIN MARATHON and the start of AbbottWMM Series XII. Qualifying will end on Sept. 29, 2019. The best two results in marathons over this period will count for each runner’s ranking. The inaugural AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championship race will be held as part of the 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon. Following the end of the qualifying period on September 29 2019, when all points have been updated, the highest-ranked runners in each age group will be invited to take part in the 2020 Championship race in London.
