Medoc Marathon 2016 behind the scenes

One of our fantastic reps, Joe, has recently taken runners to the Medoc Marathon. From the race itself, to the surrouding sights, check out Joe’s behind the scenes access to the 2016 Medoc Marathon.

After arriving into Bordeaux airport, I got the direct train from the airport straight to the centre of Bordeaux, which takes 30 minutes and is only 12.30 Euro return. The hotel is a 5-minute walk from the river, which is ideal for pre marathon training.

The hotel we stay in is one of my favourites and I always look forward to staying there. Its clean, friendly, the staff are so welcoming and right in the centre of Bordeaux. Excellent for the marathon itself, shopping and restaurants.

The Marathon itself once again was brilliantly organised, on time and delivered over 8000 runners 42km of pure enjoyment including lots of wine! The marathon started with a beautiful acrobatic show, which was just fantastic. A few clients and myself walked to the 22km mark to catch the runners in action, which just passed the half way mark. We passed about 3 chateaus just to get to the half waypoint, which was lovely to see. We did manage to see quite a few STI runners, which was encouraging for them. The theme for this year was “tales and legends” Everyone we saw was in fancy dress from fairies to knights and even including the French football team. The marathon itself got upto 30 degrees so we saw some a few hot runners. But the marathon always provides enough water and wine for runners. The end was brilliant to watch, seeing thousands of runners complete the world famous Medoc marathon. Well done to all the runners!

The Sunday was a chance for the runners to visit some more beautiful chateaus and really to stretch their legs after the marathon. The walk included visiting 2 of the biggest chateaus in Bordeaux, wine tasting, lunch and a 8k walk.

Overall the Medoc marathon proved why there isn’t any other marathon like it in the world. I can’t wait to do it all again in 2017!
