The route of the 75th edition of the Vuelta a Espana was recently announced in Madrid. The Vuelta’s Gran Salida in Utrecht was already announced. The Dutch city becomes the first foreign venue to have now hosted stages from all the 3 Grand Tours.

After the 3 stages in Holland, the 2020 Vuelta enters Spain after a travelling rest day with a stage in the Basque Country from Irun and the first uphill finish at the sanctuary of Arrate. What follows then is a series of stages in the north of Spain. The 2020 Vuelta never ventures south of Madrid throughout the entire event. Apart from the start in Holland, the Vuelta also visits France and Portugal.

The Aubisque and the Tourmalet

We are very excited about the stage that starts in Biescas in Spain and that takes in the Col du Pourtalet, the Aubisque and the Tourmalet. We will offer a great weekend trip to the Tourmalet stage. On Friday 22 August arrive into Toulouse airport and we’ll provide 2 airport transfers to take you to our hotel in Bagneres de Bigorre at the foot of the Tourmalet. Alternatively arrive by TGV in Lourdes and we’ll collect you from there. Our experienced team will support you on a guided ride to take on the Aubisque and the Tourmalet on the Saturday. On Sunday we’ll climb the Tourmalet from the other side and we’ll have access to the VIP finish area on the summit to see the winner of this stage being crowned.

Contador Weekend – La Farrapona and Angliru

In Asturias the weekend with La Farrapona and Angliru is best described as the Contador weekend as El Pistolero won on both climbs before. His last victory as a pro cyclist was on Angliru. In 2014, Contador beat Chris Froome into second by 14 seconds on La Farrapona on the final climb of that year’s Queen Stage. The last time the Vuelta visited Angliru was in 2017 and Alberto Contador beat Wout Poels and Chris Froome to give himself the best career finale.

Arrive into Bilbao on Friday 28 August and we’ll provide an airport transfer to Oviedo where we’ll stay for 3 nights. We’ll take you to the best vantage points with VIP and hospitality access included.

Tourmalet to Angliru

You can join us from the Tourmalet to the Angliru for our 11 day tour. From the French Pyrenees we venture again into the Basque Country and we’ll spend 4 nights in beautiful Bilbao. From Bilbao we’ll move onto Oviedo and we’ll follow the course into Asturias for our Contador weekend.

A day on a stage in a Vuelta race car

Special about the Vuelta day on course in a race car is that you are inside the course and among the riders. On other events you are ahead of the peloton.

You start your day at the start venue of the day’s stage. You will meet your driver who is a former Pro Cyclist at the Start Village who will be your guide and driver for the day. You will enjoy the build up of the race and the signing on at the start village. Once the riders have started, you will get in the car and spend the day in the heart of the action. At the finish, you have access to the VIP finish area and you’ll see the finish and the winners ceremony.

Make this experience even more special with a 20 minute helicopter flight included as part of your day.

VIP Start Village access

One of the best experiences for obtaining an insight behind the scenes of the biggest show on earth. Wear your VIP access badge and mill around the official Vuelta a Espana start village with celebrities, journalists and of course the riders and their entourage.

The 2020 Vuelta entourage and organisation travel around with the riders. The team busses park within an enclosed and restricted area. An expo type village is created at the start of each one of the stages. It is usually here that everyone who is linked in any way to the Vuelta like TV, sponsors and celebrities from the cycling world will show themselves. Also local companies will be keen to show off their wares. Your VIP passes will give you access to the village and the rider’s paddock. If you into collecting autographs, this is the best place for it.

Ride across the finish line experience

You will ride on the stage route 2.5/3 hours ahead of the peloton, before crossing the finish line in front of cheering cycling fans. Then stand on the Winner’s podium to have your picture taken and take home your very own slice of Vuelta history. The amount of the route you will ride, varies from stage to stage according to logistics. This is like having your very own Etapa de la Vuelta! Spectators can also join in with the podium pictures and a guided visit of the technical area (TV and Media, anti-doping, podium etc.)

VIP Finish hospitality

At the finish, you will go to the exclusive VIP hospitality area located very close to the final stretch of the course with a view of the finish. Everyone will be served with drinks and snacks and there are are TVs to watch the LIVE action as it unfolds. After watching the finish, you will celebrate the victory with Champagne as riders arrive!

Want to see the Vuelta but can’t get a week off? Fancy a weekend break? The 3 week La Vuelta a Espana Gran cycling Tour will end in Madrid in September 2020. Like the Tour de France, the final day has been contested in the late afternoon/ evening in recent years. There is also a women’s race ahead of the arrival of the riders of the Vuelta, again just like the Tour de France.
