Joanna Rowsell Shand Rides l’Etape du Tour

A glorious day at the 2017 UKFast We Love Manchester 10k

The sun drenched Etihad Campus was the venue for yesterday’s UKFast We Love Manchester 10k, where over 2,500 runners took part in ‘The Peoples Race’. The Lord Mayor of Manchester Councillor Eddy Newman started the race at the impressive Regional Athletics Track with hundreds of spectators cheering the competitors out of the stadium and along the 10k route. Defending men’s champion Mohammad Aburezeq running for Altrincham & District AC retained his title in an impressive time of 30 minutes and 50 seconds, followed by Alistair Watson just 19 seconds behind and Southampton AC’s Richard Waldron rounding off the top three, in a time of 32 minutes 11 seconds. Dorking & Mole Valley AC runner Hannah Jarvis took the 2017 Women’s title in 37 minutes 21 seconds, pipping the 2016 champion Kirsty Longley into second place, by just 6 seconds. Third place went to Katherine Howard of Knowsley Harriers in 38 minutes 6 seconds. Sports Tours International Race Director Graham Jackson said “Th

The Tour de France road side spectating

On the face of it, standing by the roadside for hours waiting for 190 pro cyclists to ride past full gas in a few seconds might seem like a bad/boring idea. However along the entire route of the Tour another spectacle is waiting to entertain you – that being other spectators and the official caravan! It is getting crazier and crazier every year at the Grand Tours with colourful characters cheering on the riders at the road side in mankinis’ or  shirtless carrying a stuffed Wild Boar (definitely the best in my opinion from last year)! This side show certainly adds a bit extra to the viewing although sometimes it all looks a bit too close for comfort. D Kerckhoffs/W van Keuk/Cor Vos © 2013 All of the Grand Tours have a publicity caravan but The Tour de France  caravan is definitely the most spectacular. The vehicle parade of the 2016 Tour de France had 170 vehicles. You’ll see them coming past before the riders and they pelt the crowd with little keepsakes, my recent favourite by f

The Magic of Disney

runDisney events offer the chance to combine a family holiday with running alongside the likes of Mickey and Minnie Mouse. As an official operator, we can guarantee your entry… Disneyland® Paris Magic Run Weekend  After winning the women’s race at the inaugural Disneyland® Paris Half Marathon Val d’Europe last year, runDisney ambassador Paula Radcliffe said of the experience: “This is close to my heart, because you can have a family day out but also introduce running to the kids. Donald Duck is my favourite, but I’ve never run in fancy dress, yet.” Paula’s comments sum up the great appeal of runDisney. Not only do the events allow you to take the whole family along, they also give you access to the Disney’s theme parks to enjoy before or after the races. Paula was one of 12,000 runners who took to the streets of Paris for the event last autumn. Following on from this success, the event is returning to the French capital on 24 September 2017. Though Paula didn’t dress up, weari

Time For New York?

Image
The TCS New York City Marathon is the zenith. The race we all want in our running log. The one we’ll never forget. And you can be there on the start line with 50,000 other running aficionados on Sunday 5 November 2017 for the dream autumn date. Charlie Chaplin put it simply: “The glamour of it all! New York! America!” But the best-loved British import to the USA nailed it. New York is a mythical city – cosmopolitan is a word that hardly does justice to the sheer range of experiences available in the place they call the Big Apple but if you add turbo-charged, electrifying, breathtaking, theatrical and sensational, you’re maybe getting half way there. New York is special and it’s home to a special event – the TCS New York City Marathon, the greatest race in the world. Each November 50,000 runners from across the planet make a pilgrimage to America’s most famous city to be part of the unrivaled action. We spoke to a race veteran to tell us why New York is No.1.
