Why Stacey has been nominated

Stacey is an inspirational role model for women in sport, she is someone who has regularly knocked down the gender stereotypes of sport and is an athlete that the next generation can look up to. Stacey is passionate about sport at every level and about the difference that physical activity can make in people’s lives no matter what their age and gender is.  She believes it’s okay to be strong, to be competitive, to be yourself and love what you do even if society tells you differently and then gender should never be a barrier for human potential.

Stacey has been very vocal in the debate surrounding ring card girls, appearing in the national media as a spokesperson, and has been praised for her use of young boxers as ring card holders.

Stacey made her amateur debut in 2011 and became European silver medalist and three-time national champion; she turned professional in 2017 and currently remains unbeaten.

Outside of her boxing career she has a wider impact which inspires future generations. She’s really enthusiastic about making positive changes, especially for young people. Stacey has regularly spoken out against objectifying women in sport and has chosen to use young boxers from local gyms as mascots instead of ring card girls.

Stacey developed the ‘Pave the Way’ project to inspire women to achieve their full potential through sport, this has included an inspiration day for girls with a mix of community sports sessions for local groups of women. In the past year, Stacey has given over 50 talks to highlight the inequalities but also celebrate the success of women in sport, one of those was a speech to the European Parliament.

Here at Sports Tours International, we are immensely proud to work with Stacey as our Community Ambassador, not only is Stacey focused on encouraging young people to get active, she is a fantastic role model for inspiring girls and women in sport. Stacey is part of our team of ambassadors that includes Joanna Rowsell Shand and Rhianna Parkinson as we look to inspire women to participate in sport. Our mission is to create the world’s largest active lifestyle community. We believe that together we can make sport a more inclusive environment for everyone to enjoy.

How does the voting work?

Following a public nomination process, each award was shortlisted by the Women’s Sport Trust Board of Trustees. The finalists in each category were then chosen by their Expert Panel. Public voting decides the winners. Winners will be announced at the #BeAGameChanger awards in London on 24th May 2018.
