Tour of Tameside secures major partnerships to support Health and wellbeing foundation

The iconic Tour of Tameside is returning for its fourth year and has partnered with local and nationwide organisations to support the North West’s newest charitable initiative.

The 2019 tour will be a part of the newly announced charity, The Running Bee Foundation and alongside founders Sports Tours International, will be supported by national supermarket supplier Kerry Foods, national specialist running retailer Up & Running, North West housing provider Jigsaw Group, Tameside’s leisure facilities Active Tameside, Tameside’s local newspaper and radio Tameside Reporter and Tameside Radio, Oldham based O’Donnell solicitors, Glossop’s ale brewer’s Howard Town Brewery and local school equipment supplier Davies Sports.

Kevin Harmer, UK Events & Sponsorship Manager at The Running Bee Foundation said; “We’re pleased to welcome past and new partners to the tour this year. It’s a big year for us as all our UK events are now part of The Running Bee Foundation, which will see all the profits from the events go back into local community health and wellbeing projects and initiatives that focus on reducing childhood obesity. All our partners really understand our events and each have the perfect offering for our runners whether that be their expertise or local support for Tameside’s communities.’’

The Tour of Tameside will begin on 13th June with the X-Trail 10K in the evening. Day 2 (14th) is the 7 mile Hell on the Fell run, followed by the Hero Half Marathon on Saturday (15th) and Dr Ron Hill Hyde 7 on the Sunday Morning (16th).  There is an option to complete the full tour or run each of the stages separately.

Chris Bird, CEO of Sports Tours International said; ’’It’s the first year of the foundation and we are hoping that the people of Tameside really get on board, as they do all of our races, and help us to raise as much money as possible for their community. The foundation has been set up in memory of a very inspirational woman, Mo Done who shared the same passion for health and sport as we do. The Tour is a fantastic event which has almost become Tameside’s very own festival of running and we’re looking forward to another successful year.’’

The Running Bee Foundation was founded and is supported by Sports Tours International and will provide grants from the profits raised from each race to give to community initiatives across Manchester and the North West to promote health and wellbeing and the fight to tackle and reduce childhood obesity.
