Need some inspiration? Then look no further.

If you’re lacking a bit of motivation today and need some inspiration then look no further… we have just the lady for you. Meet Daphne Belt.

NOW is a good time to start!

At the age of 50 there are probably some of you who might be thinking, it’s time I hang up my trainers, cycling shoes or goggles. I’m getting too old for this… however that was the furthest from the lips of Super Triathlete Daphne Belt who was just starting her career in Triathlon.

It was a “Get back to fitness” push that inspired Daph to sign up for the Damp Dash in the Kingfisher at Kingston-Upon-Thames. It’s fair to say Daphne got the bug and has since gone on to be one of the UKs most successful amateur athletes. Now at 79 she has competed in over 380 triathlons including the Ironman World Championships in Kona. Daph is 32 times national triathlon age group champion over various distances but winning isn’t the only thing on her mind.

Daph relentlessly raises money for a number of charities. In 2014 Daph completed 75 mini triathlons in 75 days for Chestnut Tree House, a Children’s charity close to her heart. Again in 2016 Daph raised £6000 through various sporting events and continues to raise money for charities through her adventures in Sport.

Daphne’s endeavors have not gone unnoticed. She has been recognized through a number of prestigious awards including Sports person of the Year 2014 / 2016 / 2017, Fab after Fifty Award and the Alpen Women’s Achievement Award to name a few. Most recently Daphne was featured amongst personalities like spaceman Tim Peake, Sally Gunnell, Maggie Smith, Eddie Izzard and Keith Richard as one of the top 100 inspirational people named by ETC Magazine. On top of this Daphne even finds time to be an ambassador for Age UK.

So Daphne turns 80 this year. Would you like to know how she’ll be spending it?

  • 3rd March – Swim/Run Littlehampton which she finished in 46:14.5
  • 29th March 5000 Swimathon. 5000mtr swim on all three days.
  • 30th June – Ironman 70.3 in Haugesund in Norway

You can follow Daphne on Instagram @daphnebelt and her blog. You can also watch this short documentary on Daphne, where it’s inspiring from the very first scene!

What age are you turning this year and what will you be doing celebrate? Maybe take just a little leaf of inspiration out of Daphne’s book and sign up for that event you’ve been putting off forever. One thing for sure is you CANNOT use age as an excuse anymore.
