All Roads Lead to Roth : Part 1/4 – Accepting the Challenge

If you’re going to take on a Long Distance Triathlon this year, then, like Rhianna, why not make it Challenge Roth? It’s one of the biggest, and it is, indisputably, one of the best!

Sports Tours International and Running Bee Foundation Ambassador Rhianna Parkinson is no stranger to Triathlon. Over the last 4 years she has swum, biked and ran her way to the end of no less than 14 Middle Distance Triathlons, in 4 different countries, including 2 World Championship races!  She also has countless Olympic and Sprint distance races under her belt too. She is, however, yet to take on the daunting 140.6 miles of a Long Distance course, and in 2020 she intends to change that.

‘I had always intended on doing one sooner really.’ Rhianna admits when I ask her why she is yet to take on a full distance race. ‘But everything moved so quickly with South Africa, then Dubai, and Nice. It’s been amazing, but it meant I never had the time to really focus on a full, and I always knew that, if I was going to do it, I wanted to do it properly.’

Rhianna’s Tri journey so far has certainly been a whirlwind. From couch potato to World Championships in less than 3 years and then qualifying for the subsequent Worlds at her next race; she is living proof of how much someone can turn their life around, and, with the right drive and dedication, how far they can go.

‘That’s the best thing about triathlon; you can go anywhere to do it, and anyone can give it a go. It’s the most inclusive sport I’ve ever tried. I’ve made friends, of all ages, from all over the world. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from; we all have this one thing in common – We Tri!’

In 2019, Sports Tours International became an official Challenge Roth Travel Partner, offering Tours and Bike Bus Transport Services to one of the biggest, oldest, and most popular long distance triathlons in the world.

‘Seeing all the pictures and videos from the reps really inspired me, and I started thinking one again about taking on a Full. I discussed it with my coach, and he was really up for the idea; It’s the best, he told me. After that, my mind was made up…
…It was time to take on Challenge Roth.’

About Challenge Roth

Challenge Roth is the home of triathlon.

It was where the story started for the Challenge Family when the race went independent from the WTC in 2002. This is a race that was kept alive by the dedicated sponsors and volunteers, and the passion of it’s athletes and supporters. It epitomises the enduring spirit of long distance triathlon to the core. There is no feeling in the world like climbing the famous Solarberg Hill. It’s like being in the Tour de France. There are crowds everywhere cheering you on and patting you on the back as you climb, and even better, you get to do it twice!

This race is a true celebration of triathlon and spectacle of sport. With live music, unrivalled crowd support, and fireworks at the finish; Challenge Roth is a race with a festival feel from the start, and, this year, you can be a part of it too!

The 2020 edition of the race will take place on Sunday 5th July. Sports Tours International are thrilled to be able to offer packages, with the option to purchase guaranteed entry for the 2020 race, on sale now! In conjunction with our friends, and part of the Sports Tours International family Race force, we are also pleased to be able to offer our bespoke Bike Bus Pro service for stress free, safe and easy travel,  for your bike, to the event.
