The Legendary Haute Route Alps Sell Out Completely in Just 2 Weeks!

2021 HAUTE ROUTE ALPS Sold Out After Just 2 Weeks

Entries for the iconic, seven-day Haute Route Alps have now completely sold out; just two weeks after general registration opened.

27 AUGUST 2020.  One of the most famous bucket list global cycling events has already exhausted entries for its 2021 edition. Here at Sports Tours International, we’ve been taking riders to the Haute Route since the very first edition in 2011. Over the past decade we have learned exactly what it takes to finish the mammoth Haute Route Challenge. Our expert services, including additional private feed stations and stage day transfers, will make every day a little more manageable. The experienced Sports Tours International team includes keen riders and former pro mechanics. Many of them are Haute Route finishers themselves, so can give you personal insight from their Haute Route experiences.

It would appear that riders are well and truly ready to hit the road again, after a frustrating spell of mass event postponements and cancellations. The 2021 Haute Route calendar was announced on August 3, it went on general sale on Wednesday 12 August, and this morning, a handful of days later, was totally SOLD OUT.
Described by Cyclist magazine as “leg-shredding and life-changing in equal measure;” the event is the crown jewel in the Haute Route cycling series calendar. Spanning over 800 km, and featuring a jaw dropping 21000 m of elevation, the seven-stage race takes in countless infamous peaks and  legendary cols.

The course for 2021 is still yet to be revealed, however that has not deterred riders from across the globe snatching up the 500 places that were up for grabs for the 2021 peloton. The high number of event entry deferrals and roll overs from 2020,  combined with the hoards of cyclists desperate to get back into racing and events, means that demand for 2021 entry packages is exceptionally high. There are still however, VERY LIMITED entries available from Sports Tours International!

Haute Route Alps will be celebrating its 10th anniversary edition in 2021. In this short time it has earned a reputation as one of the toughest amateur cycling races in the world. Read an account of what its like to take part in the Haute Route from Sports Tours International rider turned rep Chris Breckon HERE.

The Haute Route Series

Now part of the nine-race Haute Route series,  Haute Route Alps continues to enjoy huge popularity around the world.

For those who don’t fancy the the full 7 day Haute Route Alps however, there is now a plethora of alternative options available. Haute Route Pyrenees and Dolomites both take a five day format; while options such as Haute Route Ventoux and Haute Route Crans – Montana allow you to enjoy the very best of European cycling in a 3 day format, that has you comfortably back home by Monday morning.

Haute Route CEO Julie Royer Coutts has commented of the event’s continually growing popularity;

 “While the Haute Route has continued to evolve and offer more destinations and more services to a higher standard than ever before, the Haute Route Alps is still beloved by riders for the reason it gained renown in the beginning: it’s the toughest amateur cycling race in the world.
We’re so proud to celebrate the race’s 10th anniversary next year. After all these years, it still epitomises everything that the Haute Route stands for. It’s been a challenging few months for everyone, so it’s such a thrill to see all the places for the event sell out in just a couple of weeks. It is proof that the cycling community’s passion is stronger than ever and we can’t wait to see everyone come together again for this incredible event in 2021.”

The Haute Route is promising next year’s edition will be extra special. There will be a brand new course, more challenging than ever before, designed to keep the riders on their toes.

“We really want this 10th edition to be something memorable.” – Haute Route Race Director Jean-Francois Alcan.

Also available on the 2021 series calendar, for those who want to travel further afield are 3 day events in Florianópolis, Brazil, Nizwa, Oman, and Valle de Bravo, Mexico. For those who don’t want to travel, there is also a virtual event available on Zwift.
