Running – Finding your why and progress goal setting

Image
Before Corona Virus we were looking forward to announcing our partnership with Tim Pigott from HP3.  Tim as our Running Coach Partner would provide you with expert training plans and advice to help you achieve your race goals. For the moment rather than training plans, Tim has written about the current situation and why it’s worth asking yourself “why do you run”? Over to Tim: With such uncertainty around racing this season, and perhaps beyond, it is important to look within for your goals and challenges.  What was it about the race you had planned to do which made you enter?  Why do you challenge yourself with these events?  Why do you train at all? Why, why, why…. (do I sound like a 2 year old yet?) Why is a powerful word and you should start here.  Using Simon Sinek’s ‘Golden Circle ’ idea you should clarify what your why is.  To help you get there you can use techniques such as the ‘ 5-whys ’ or even ‘7-whys’ .  These are well proven techniques to improve your focus and improve

The UCI Have Confirmed the Rearranged 2020 Calendar

Image
Due to the widespread disruption throughout the first half of 2020, much of the usual UCI Race Calendar for spring and summer had to be postponed. The question then, that kept being asked around our office was, how will they fit everything in this autumn? Well, the UCI have pulled it off, and assuming these races go ahead, we can’t wait for this jam packed schedule. Here at Sports Tours International, we take cyclists and cycling fans to the world’s best races each and every year. This is what is keeping us going right now, knowing that, at some point (hopefully soon), we will help you experience these amazing races again. We are working hard at the moment to assess the options and work out which trip we will be able to run on the new calendar. Once this is all finalised, we will share this information with you. Have a look at the new UCI 2020 calendar by clicking here  We are still working on what trips we will offer for this new calendar, but if you think that you’d like to atte

A Beginner’s Guide to Zwift Racing

The team at Sports Tours International are a competitive bunch. So when it become clear that all events would be cancelled for the Spring, it was time to seek an alternative. Megan and Ross have very recently taken to virtual cycle racing, so if you are tempted to give it a go yourself, you might take away a few helpful hints and you certainly won’t make the same mistakes! Megan, our Content Writer This year (2020) was supposed to be my first attempting the age-old art of time trialling. I’ve been cycling regularly, and cycle commuting for about two years now, so, I’d recently decided it was time to really knuckle down and really get the wheels turning. And then, COVID- 19 happened. My partner and I live in Manchester, which experienced its 10 th wettest year on record in 2019, so we had both already invested in turbo trainers. But, I have to admit, I had been a little reluctant to engage with all the technological advancements in indoor bike training. I never thought I’d want and

Midweek Motivation: Mile PB Attempt

‘The more restricted our society and work become; the more necessary it will be to find some outlet for this craving for freedom. No one can say, “You must not run faster than this, or jump higher than that.” The human spirit is indomitable.’ Roger Bannister 66 years ago today, on a cold, wet and windy day, in a Britain still recovering from the devastation of 2 World Wars; a 25 year old medical student in Oxford achieved the seemingly impossible. On the 6 th of May 1954 Roger Bannister ran a sub 4 minute mile. His run became a symbol of human achievement that echoed far beyond the world of athletics. Runners the world over had been trying seriously to break this barrier since the late 1800s, but over 50 years later, the fabled four minute mile still seemed out of reach. Bannister’s achievement, described by Athletics Weekly as ‘ the Everest of Athletics’, had not taken place in perfect weather, nor on a perfect surface, but by a team of runners, working tirelessly together to achi

My first Marathon amid Covid-19

As far as we at Sports Tours International are considered preparing for your first marathon is a fantastic journey and one that should always be savoured and one that will be remembered. For one of our team, Tom, here at Sports Tours International; his first marathon journey, to the London Marathon 2020 has been, to say the least, a long and bumpy road. But, as many of us around the world face challenging times, and widespread disruption to our training and race calendars, due to COVID-19, Tom is happy that had found running before this and is planning to continue with his marathon preparation. Over to Tom:  Back in April I entered the ballot for the London Marathon; I just filled in my entry and then thought nothing of it. It’d be nice to get a place; it’d be amazing if I could run alongside my brother, who had also entered, but I knew how unlikely it was after all this is the London Marathon ( there was actually less than a 4% chance to gaining a place through the ballot!) Months

Our very own 2.6 challenge

Image
Earlier this week members of our team at Sports Tours International, Club La Santa UK & Ireland, Sports Travel International and The Running Bee Foundation participated in the 2.6 challenge to help raise money for charities close to their hearts. So what is the 2.6 Challenge? With the Virgin Money London Marathon being postponed from April 26th to October 4th due to the COVID-19 pandemic, charities have missed out on millions of pounds of fundraising money as the marathon is the biggest one day fund raiser in the world. The 2019 edition raised over £66million for charity and the idea of the 2.6 challenge is to get as many people as possible doing exercise with 2.6 in. So, this could be something like 2.6 minutes of exercise or 2.6 miles (indoor our outdoor) or even 2.6 times around your garden. The initiative aims to encourage people to do their exercise on April 26th (which would be the original marathon day) and get sponsored or donate money to a charity of their choice to hel
