Top Ten tips for running and cycling in the winter The clocks have changed, the days are darker and there is lots of rain and wind. Winter in the northern hemisphere can be challenging but it’s a great time to train outside as well. The old saying goes; ‘winter miles means summer smiles’! If you wrap up warm, have the right clothing and equipment and adapt your training accordingly then the winter can be a great time for training. Most importantly it’s key to stay safe. Make sure to follow these top tips. 1. Wear the right clothing Good footwear is essential for running and cycling in all weather, especially in wet conditions. You should make sure you have good grip on your shoes and if possible make sure that they are waterproof. During the colder months appropriate clothing is essential to manage the lower temperatures – wear layers that are warm but breathable, and can be added or removed easily. Also make sure that you are visible at night with Hi Viz clothing and lights 2.

New Records and New Rules at the Valencia Half Marathon

This weekend, some of the world’s best endurance athletes lined up for the Valencia Marathon and Half Marathon. At perhaps the last major event of the 2020 season, the racing certainly did not disappoint. Marathon  Team Kenya absolutely dominated the Marathon race. Evans Chebet claimed victory, with a new course record of 2:03;00. Compatriot Lauwrence Cherono finished just 4 seconds later. In the women’s race Peres Jepchirchir set a world leading time. Her 2:17:16 finish time took six minutes off her previous best. She now ranks 5th for women’s all time best marathon performances. Image from 2018 Valencia Marathon Half Marathon  The half marathon race also sent sparks flying, as records came crashing down. Kibiwott Kandie of Kenya finished the race in an incredible 57:32. Taking some 29 seconds off the previous record, set by Geoffrey Kamworor at Copenhagen in 2019. Sports Tours International Covid response and customer feedback

It has been an extremely challenging period for the travel industry. The situation for the Sports Tours International Group of companies has been no exception to this. As a sports tour operator that specialises in providing travel packages to people taking in international sports events, it’s clear to see how the mass cancellation of events has had an impact us. Throughout this difficult period we are proud to say that we have continued to look after our customers. For us it all started in March. Our spring cycling training camp in Spain just managed to take place but our first main events to be cancelled were Strade Bianche Gran Fondo and the Tokyo Marathon. It took us a couple of weeks to get used to this new situation and to formulate our strategy on how we were going to deal with refunds but we haven’t looked back since.
