The 2017 Tour of Tameside is delighted to welcome one of the most important and active charities in the region to become an Official Charity Partner of this June’s four day running challenge.

Macmillan Cancer Support has a great presence in Tameside and many will be familiar with their recent impressive fundraising efforts which have funded the new state of the art Macmillan Cancer Unit at Tameside Hospital.

Rose Tipton, Macmillan Cancer Support Fundraising Manager for Greater Manchester said, Every year over 1,000 people in Tameside and Glossop are told they have cancer. At Macmillan Cancer Support we want to be there for them every step of the way. Your support of our Tameside Macmillan Appeal will ensure we can do this. Kevin Harmer, UK Events & Sponsorship Manager at the Tour of Tameside said, “The Tour of Tameside always aims to engage with the businesses and organisations within Tameside that mean a lot to its residents and with the Tameside Macmillan Unit being funded by Macmillan fundraising, we are delighted to continue to assist them with spreading their messages further”.

The charity will have a presence on each of the four days of running during this June’s event, most noticeably on Stage 3 the Hero Half Marathon where a cheering station will be positioned on the 13.1 mile route to boost the runners as they go along.

The multi-day running event that was brought back to Tameside in 2015 is proving a great hit with the biggest businesses in Tameside and Davies Sports joins New Charter and Kerry Foods in supporting the biggest community focussed sporting event of the year.

The 2017 Tour of Tameside begins with Stage 1 the ‘X-Trail 10k’ on Thursday evening the 15th of June in Daisy Nook and Park Bridge Country Parks in Ashton before moving onto Stage 2, on Friday evening the 16th of June, the infamous ‘Hell on the Fell’ in Copley, Stalybridge will take place.

Stage 3 is Saturday morning the 17th of June where runners will take on the 13.1 mile ‘Hero Half Marathon’ along the Longendale Trail before the final day, Stage 4 on Sunday the 18th of June where the Tour will finish with the classic ‘Dr Ron 7’ (formerly know as the Hyde 7 and now named after the founding father of the Tour of Tameside Dr Ron Hill MBE) – a seven mile road run where many friends and family will line the route to welcome the competitors home.

The Tour recognises that not all runners wish to run all four days back-to-back, so Sports Tours International have again opened up ‘Single Stage Entries’ for those wishing to run one, two or three of the individual days. The option encourages beginners and those who wish to run shorter to still become a part of the Tour of Tameside.
