SWEET TREAT FOR THE TOUR OF TAMESIDE!

High-Peak based confectionery manufacturer Swizzels is helping this year’s Tour of Tameside runners, by donating ‘sweet treats’ to keep them energised.

Swizzels is best known as the inventors of Love Hearts, Drumstick, Parma Violets and many other well-loved sweets which have been enjoyed for generations around the world. Swizzels is one of the longest running sweet manufacturers in the UK and has been making sweets since 1928 and continues to invent exciting confectionery to this day such as the Squashies range.

Sarah-Louise Heslop, Marketing Manager atSwizzels said;
“We are pleased to be supporting the Hero Half Marathon this year. Our business has been based in High Peak for nearly 80 years and we are always keen to support great events hosted in our local community. Our Squashies range will be on offer to all runners and we hope they provide everyone with the energy they need to refuel after the race. Good luck to everyone involved!”

Kevin Harmer, UK Events & Sponsorship Manager at the Tour of Tameside said “We are delighted to have the product support from Swizzels for the 2017 Tour of Tameside. To have such an iconic British brand that is based in High Peak which is the venue for Stage Three  is fantastic. The Tour is all about engaging with runners and businesses from the area to come together to deliver annually one of the biggest and best running events, so . Having their ‘Squashies’ sweets available for the Hero Half Marathon participants will give them all a boost right when they need it!”

The multi-day running event that was brought back to Tameside in 2015 is proving a great hit with the biggest businesses in Tameside and Davies Sports joins New Charter and Kerry Foods in supporting the biggest community focussed sporting event of the year.
The 2017 Tour of Tameside begins with Stage 1 the ‘X-Trail 10k’ on Thursday evening the 15th of June in Daisy Nook and Park Bridge Country Parks in Ashton before moving onto Stage 2, on Friday evening the 16th of June, the infamous ‘Hell on the Fell’ in Copley, Stalybridge will take place.
Stage 3 is Saturday morning the 17th of June where runners will take on the 13.1 mile ‘Hero Half Marathon’ along the Longendale Trail before the final day, Stage 4 on Sunday the 18th of June where the Tour will finish with the classic ‘Dr Ron 7’ (formerly know as the Hyde 7 and now named after the founding father of the Tour of Tameside Dr Ron Hill MBE) – a seven mile road run where many friends and family will line the route to welcome the competitors home.

The Tour recognises that not all runners wish to run all four days back-to-back, so Sports Tours International have again opened up ‘Single Stage Entries’ for those wishing to run one, two or three of the individual days. The option encourages beginners and those who wish to run shorter to still become a part of the Tour of Tameside.
