As we get into June and into the summer proper we have seen warm weather in the UK at the Sports Tours International Manchester HQ so we are getting out and about running and cycling in preparation for the summer of cycling and running. We have already delivered quite a few events successfully this year and you can find a few reviews below.

The Great Wall Marathon

Our groups just keep getting bigger and bigger every year to this brilliant adventure marathon. Take a trip through living history by running a marathon along the Great Wall of China! The Great Wall Marathon started in 1998 and has been run every year along the Great wall of China since. Sport Tours International offers guaranteed entry to this event and a choice of 3 events to compete in, the marathon, half marathon or 8.5k fun run. Giro d’Italia

We had an excellent 2018 Giro d’Italia. We started our fully supported tours in Ovaro at the foot of the mighty Mont Zoncolan. We followed the riders of the Giro around the Italian Alps via Lake Garda and Susa to the final battle up to Cervinia. The race had a spectacular finish on the streets of Rome.

The Overseas Operations team are preparing the final logistics for a big summer of cycling events. Firstly it is the staggeringly beautiful but very tough Mont Blanc Marathon which takes place across the final weekend of June and then it’s into the July cycling season with the big 3 Cyclo-sportives, Maratona dles Dolomites, Marmotte Alps Gran Fondo and the Etape du Tour.

The Maratona dles Dolomites is sold out but we have very limited availability still for both the Marmotte and the Etape du Tour.

Did you know?

We provide full travel packages with hotel, entry, airport transfers to the Marmotte and the Etape but we also offer a comprehensive selection of race day services which are available to book without having to book the full travel package. These include:

Geneva Airport

We look out for the interests of all travelling cyclists, not just our own customers so we have made sure that the handling agents at Geneva airport are aware that both the Etape du Tour and the Marmotte take place on the same day in July this year. We expect a lot of travelling cyclists with their bikes on aircraft, mainly on the Friday and the Monday so airlines and handling agents have to make sure that the aircraft plan for the increased bike carriage on their planes. To help with this we have offered bike rental and an overland transport service from the UK but both of these are now fully booked.

What’s happening in cycling this week?

The Criterium du Dauphine is under way now with a few cracking mountain stages that we are looking forward to seeing including a stage to La Rosiere which is a virtual replica of one of the Tour de France stages.

The Gran Fondo Milan San Remo weekend is getting under way with a little bit of difficulty on Friday which is the main arrival day for our customers. Italian air traffic control strikes have meant cancelled and rescheduled flights. Our staff on the ground are working hard to assist our customers.

The Milan San Remo Gran Fondo is your opportunity to ride the route of the longest one day event on the UCI calendar in June 2019. The Milan San Remo Gran Fondo follows the same route as the one undertaken by the riders of the pro peloton during the annual spring classic in March, the Milan San Remo. We offer 2 nights in Milan and 1 night in San Remo with airport transfers from Milan and to Nice and luggage transfer on race day included as well as guaranteed entry and our staff support. UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Varese

The UK Qualifier for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships took place last weekend. The Tour of Cambridgeshire took place and we have seen an enormous amount of interest in our travel packages to Varese where the world championships take place at the end of August.  One hotel is already sold out but we still have some places remaining so if you qualified at the TOC or any other UCI Gran Fondo World series event, don’t wait too long with booking your hotel and support package with us as we are selling fast – BOOK NOW

The Strade Bianche

Omloop Het Nieuwsblad Gran Fondo and Pro Race

Now available to book is The Omloop Het Nieuwsblad which heralds the traditional start of the cycling season. This race is steeped in tradition and it recreates the finale of the Tour of Flanders as it was in the past with the Muur van Geraardsbergen and the finish in Meerbeke. What’s happening in running this week?

RunDisney

We are in the final sales period for the Disneyland Paris Half Marathon now with final places remaining. After Paris, you can also enjoy some Disney magic in Florida in January and February 2019. More information about the RunDisney series of events can be found here
