Sports Tour International is proud to announce the launch of our packages for the 2019 Mont Blanc Marathon which takes place on Sunday the 30th of June 2019. The weekend will consist of five events that include a 90km Ultra Trail and a Vertical KM on Friday (28th), a 10km and Cross 23km on Saturday (29th), before finishing with the Mont Blanc Marathon on the Sunday. We kick-off our awesome weekend itinerary on the 28th of June, with a Mont Blanc ultra 90km, starting from the lively centre of Chamonix. The locals will be cheering the runners on, as they prepare for the ultimate challenge of a 6,220-metre vertical climb up into the Alps. On the same day, there is also the demanding task of the vertical KM. This trail is 3.8km of a pure uphill battle which will give you a strong feeling of accomplishment when you cross the finish line! Saturday the 29th consists of the Mont Blanc Cross 23km (8:30am) and the ever-popular Mont Blanc 10km (9am) – both races will start on the landing parag

Road to Ironman 70.3 World Championships with Rhianna Parkinson

Image
We caught up with our Community Ambassador, Rhianna Parkinson to find out about her journey to the Ironman 70.3 World Championships. Rhianna is an inspirational athlete who has gone from sitting on the couch doing little exercise to representing Great Britain at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in less than three years. So over to Rhianna… I can’t quite believe it’s finally here! Today (24th August)  I fly out to South Africa to compete in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships. After taking a few months off over winter to do some of the sports I just like to have fun with, such as cross country running and Cyclo-Cross racing, I began building up my triathlon fitness again around March time. I competed in two half Ironman distance events this year which I treated as practice runs and a way to evaluate my fitness and how well my training has been. I was happy with my performances but I knew I needed more structure around my training rather than just making it up as I went along!

Here at Sports Tours International we offer a wide selection of European amateur cycling events. Here is our list of the best put together by Alex de Waard, keen cyclist and our Head of International Operations. On our events single travellers can join our group and we provide a race briefing, additional food and assistance points along the course and various other additional race services. To give you an overview of what’s available and what each event has on offer in terms of distance, difficulty, entry availability and access we have put together the below list for you. Cyclo-Sportives and Gran Fondo The name Gran Fondo is often used in the US for cycling events. In Europe the name Cyclo-Sportive tends to be used more in France while Gran Fondo is use

Ron Hill – a life of running

Image
Dr ‘Ron’ Hill MBE is a man who helped push the boundaries in marathon running. Not only was he the second man to break 2:10 in the marathon, but he also set world records at four other distances, winning gold medals for the marathon at the European Championships in 1969 and the Commonwealth Games in 1970. However, to many, he made his fame as a clothing entrepreneur with the well-recognised Ron Hill running attire, which can be spotted online, as well as in sports shops up and down the country. To us though, he is our much-adored Sports Tours International ambassador, spreading the word on how fanatical about sport we really are, not to mention promoting many of our upcoming running events. If this is the first you’ve heard of the great man, then lace up your trainers, as we talk you through the fascinating Ron Hill story. Running Career Sir Mo Farah may take the accolades for creating the interest in long distance running on British shores these days, but in the 60’s, 70’s and e

Pave the way with Stacey Copeland

Hi everyone! I didn’t manage to write a blog in July as it was a pretty jam-packed month! Mid July I went over to Zimbabwe as part of a UK vs Africa team and what an incredible experience it was. We visited schools where we did some demos on the pads with our coaches for the school children and they absolutely loved it, some of the kids also taught me how to play the wooden xylophone which was great fun;  we visited a children’s home and an animal sanctuary, so it really was great to find out more about Harare and its people. In terms of the fight it was by far the biggest of my pro career so far, covered by Kwese sports (the African equivalent of sky sports) 117 million viewers watched across Africa and many at home in the UK here too as it was live streamed. I won the fight by points decision over 10 rounds against South African fighter, Mapule Ngubane, this meant that I became the first ever British woman to win the Commonwealth title. Less than 48 hours after winning the title I w

We always look ahead to the next event but we will take some time here to look back at this great Tour de France. The 2018 Tour de France was a great success again for Sports Tours International. We provided VIP access to every single stage and we had some great people join us on our fully supported tours. Below is a review of what we got up to. The Grand Depart and Brittany For the Grand Depart we stayed in La Roche sur Yon which was an excellent, central location to access the first stages of the 2018 Tour de France in the Vendee Pays de Loire region. A little surprise was that we stayed at the same hotel as Team AG2R. On the below photo you can see Romain Bardet
