A look back at the 2018 Tour de France

Sports Tours International is official VIP tour operator for the Tour de France, the Giro d’Italia and the Vuelta a Espana. All our tours include the option to ride on the same roads as the professionals and exclusive VIP access is included. Our team of drivers, guides and mechanics welcome both cyclists and spectators.

We always look ahead to the next event but we will take some time here to look back at this great Tour de France.

The 2018 Tour de France was a great success again for Sports Tours International. We provided VIP access to every single stage and we had some great people join us on our fully supported tours. Below is a review of what we got up to.

The Grand Depart and Brittany

For the Grand Depart we stayed in La Roche sur Yon which was an excellent, central location to access the first stages of the 2018 Tour de France in the Vendee Pays de Loire region. A little surprise was that we stayed at the same hotel as Team AG2R. On the below photo you can see Romain Bardet walking past our group as they stand outside the hotel.

One of the highlights of our visit to Brittany was VIP access to the Izoard hospitality area on the Mur de Bretagne.

Roubaix weekend

The weekend in Roubaix was great with mostly good weather and lots of cycling on the cobbles. The cross the finish experience in Amiens and the Relais Etape VIP experience were brilliant.

The Alpine stages

After the first rest day in Annecy, the riders of the 2018 Tour de France went into the mountains and we enjoyed stages to Le Grand Bornand, La Rosiere and Alpe d’Huez. One of the highlights here was our cross the finish experience on the Alpe d’Huez stage.

We welcomed 3 different tours in the ever popular Alps. Our Alpine riders week was based in Sainte Foy near La Rosiere, our Alpine tour was in Megeve and our bespoke tour was based in Geneva.

Mont Ventoux

As the Tour de France moved onto the Pyrenees, we took a couple of days of the Tour de France and we rode the Mont Ventoux with our group.

The Pyrenees

Our groups in the Pyrenees enjoyed staying in the town of Bagneres de Bigorre and riding the Tourmalet and watching the final time trial in the Basque country.

Paris

The finish of the Tour de France is always a special event on the streets of the Champs Elysees and it did not disappoint this time either. Some of our group from the Pyrenees came to Paris with us. The closure of the Gare de Montparnasse meant we had a to arrange coach transport rather than the planned TGV but some quick last minute organisation meant we all got to Paris in time for all the racing.

See you all next year!!!
