Thousands take to the streets for the UKFast City of Salford 10k

On Sunday 3rd September more than 3,500 people came together at Media City UK for the start of the 2017 UKFast City of Salford 10k.

Nominated Charities including The Christie, cash For Kids and Diane Modahl Sports Foundation stand to benefit as many runners took the opportunity to raise funds for their favourite charities.

First to cross the finish line was Mohammed Aburezeq from Altrincham and District AC in an incredible 30 minutes and 29 seconds. Iraitz Arrospide from the City of Sheffield and Dearne AC came a close second place with 30 minutes and 32 seconds, followed by Andile Jenkinson from Trafford Athletic Club in 31 minutes 33 seconds.
In the women’s category, Jacqueline Fairchild from Trafford Athletics Club finished in 35 minutes and 2 seconds. In second place was Kirsty Longley from Liverpool Pembroke & Sefton Harriers with a time of 30 minutes and 20 seconds, followed by Bronwen Jenkinson who finished in 37 minutes and 19 seconds.

The UKFast City of Salford 10k takes in some of Salford’s most iconic sights, from Media City UK to Old Trafford football ground. Sports Tours International organised the event with the support of main sponsors UKFast.

UK Race Director at Sports Tours International, Graham Jackson commented:

“This was our most successful race yet with superb support from the people of Salford. The UKFast City of Salford 10k attracts every type of person – from elite runners to charity fun runners and local businesses. It’s that mix that creates such a unique atmosphere and makes this such a special race.”

Supporters from the city turned out in force to cheer the runners on – many of whom were out to set a personal best, raise money for charity or simply to enjoy the atmosphere.

Salford’s own Craig Keatley was this year’s wackiest entrant, completing the course twice wearing a pair of flippers! All part of his coast-to-coast challenge in aid of The Christie hospital.

Race partners included UKFast, Soreen, Therapy First, The Christie, CashForKids, the Diane Modahl Sports Foundation, Salford City Council , Trafford Borough Council and The Peel Group.
