Who will win the 2020 ‘Fight for Pink’? Sports Tours International 2020 Giro d’Italia VIP tours
The 2020 Giro d’Italia route has been announced!
On Thursday 24 October R.C.S, the event organisers of the Giro d’Italia, hosted an opening ceremony in Milan, to confirm the route of the 103rd Giro d’Italia to be held in 2020.
As such, we have now launched our 2020 Giro d’Italia guided tours line up. We offer a variety of tours, with different durations, so you can witness the fantastic atmosphere that the race provides. We are the only international tour operator who has official partnerships with all 3 of the Cycling Grand Tours as well as the 5 Monuments of Cycling. We provide an unrivalled array of travel options, to provide both sports fans, and travelling amateur cyclists access to a whole host of amazing events throughout the year.
- The 3 Grand Tours – 3 week multi-day tours; Giro d’Italia, Tour de France, Vuelta a Espana
- The 5 Monuments of Cycling – Milan San Remo, Tour of Flanders, Paris – Roubaix, Liege Bastogne Liege, and finally Giro Lombardia
We have been operating tours to the Giro d’Italia for over 20 years, and our team of drivers, bike mechanics, bike guides and tour hosts have an encyclopedic knowledge of this incredible event. Our partnership with the Giro d’Italia means our tour vehicles have special accreditation stickers, so we can go (and take you) where others can’t. We include exclusive VIP access into all our tours, both for cyclists and spectators, ensuring that our customers have the most authentic and unforgettable experience whilst in Italy. We also take care to select our hotels in the best locations for stage access, and we do everything we can to keep hotel changes to a minimum.
The Giro d’Italia will have its 103rd edition in 2020. Italy’s greatest cycling event will, as usual, feature as the first Grand Tour of the year in 2020. However, unlike the vast majority of previous editions, we are starting abroad in Hungary. This could give your 2020 Giro experience a unique flavour, especially as the only other foreign excursion this year is a little trip to the Col d’Izoard in France. The finish is back in Milan, after Verona last year, and Rome the year before.

Our 2020 Giro d’Italia route review
In contrast with the Tour de France, with its one single ITT, the 2020 Giro d’Italia race will feature a total of 3 individual time trials. Apart from Mount Etna on Sicily, all the major mountain stages will be scaled on stages in the final 7 days of the race. The final week looks extremely tough, with a lot of huge, punishing climbs. Not only will there be a lot of climbing packed into the final week, but all 4 of the final mountain stages are longer than 200 kilometres, and 3 of the Giro’s final 5 stages take place at high altitude, with over 5,000 meters of climbing on each. We’re not sure how well he’ll get on on the mountain stages, but Peter Sagan has chosen the 2020 event to race his first Giro d’Italia. Another tough feature is that there will not be a ‘travelling rest day’, after the foreign start in Hungary, so the riders will have to wait until Monday 18 May, after 9 days of racing, to get their first break.
The 2020 Giro d’Italia starts on Saturday 9 May, with 3 stages in Hungary. The day after, and without a travelling rest day, the race will continue in Sicily for another 3 stages. Two of the Sicily stages are very tough and could reveal chinks in the armour of the Giro’s top contenders. Stage 7 sees the first action on mainland Italy, and what follows is a series of 3 sprint or breakaway stages, each of 200 kilometres or more. This is where Mr Sagan can probably do a bit of business, as the race follows the west coast up north. After the first rest day follow 2 stages (10 and 11) which follow undulating courses. The Giro then pays tribute to filmmaker Fellini with a finish in Rimini, then the the Nove Colli gran fondo with a Cesenatico stage, and finally Marco Pantani. A sprint stage follows, before the longest time trial of the race, a 33.7km test through Prosecco-country. Stage 15 features another summit finish, atop of the 1290m Piancavallo climb, which is also nominated the Pantani stage. After the second rest day comes one of the toughest final weeks in memory, with a long hilly 16th stage, followed by two consecutive 200km stages, each featuring 4 major mountains. Stage 18 includes a passage of the 2,758m Stelvio and, after a (250 km long!) flat stage, on the final mountain stage the race visits France and the fearsome Col d’Izoard. The race comes to a close with a potentially deciding time trial which could throw up an interesting result as all riders will have very tired legs.
